Learning from nature

Abbotswood is situated in the countryside close to Romsey and benefits from an unparalleled outside area spread over three-quarters of an acre.

The garden is split into a number of different areas and gives the children an opportunity to learn through play in a natural outdoors environment, to find hidden treasures and to enjoy the fresh air.

Eyes light up in wonderment at story time in the fairy garden.  Fingers and hands get all squelchy when carrying out role play in the mud kitchen. The natural bugs and minibeasts, the sand pit, balancing bars, logs and tires all contribute to the adventure playground that Abbotswood children remember for years to come.

Summer sports day is a highlight with the children running up and down the garden taking part in all manner of traditional games and challenges.

Little do they know that whilst they are having a great time, they are learning to socialise, to work as a team, to strengthen their finger muscles in preparation for writing, to build up their core strength.  The building blocks of a happy and healthy childhood.

The setting is fantastic, with so many exciting things for the children to do and explore, particularly the outside space and the opportunity to interact with animals. How many other nurseries have ducks and chickens?!
