The Preschool
Our Preschool is in our brand new Adventure Lodge!
Our preschool provides care for children aged between 3 to 5 years. We aim to take your child on a learning adventure, providing experiences that make play and learning fun and exciting, and fostering a love of learning. We want to provide opportunities for children to learn about assessing and experiencing risk, challenging ideas and realising their potential.
Our preschoolers spend the majority of their day in the great outdoors. The benefits of outdoor learning are vast. Behaviour is better, children can express themselves freely, and contagious bugs are significantly reduced.
The Preschool Areas
Here at Abbotswood, we have an extensive outdoor space. Our preschool children take full advantage of this, accessing the outdoors for the majority of their day. The children have the freedom to explore different outdoor spaces to use throughout the day. The woods, the forest, the nature area and our large play space. We are surround by fields and a nature reserve, and we take full advantage of this by going on weekly walks, exploring nature, building dens, and going on adventures!
Preschool have our amazing new lodge as their base, which they can return to after a busy morning of constructing obstacle courses or being out on a bear hunt. The Lodge offers space to read stories, take part in group games and enjoy craft activities. We all have our meals together, so we can talk about what we have enjoyed and plan out our afternoon. The children love to take part in activities that look after the local wildlife, experience the different weathers, and use their imagination.
Outdoor Activities
Here at Abbotswood, we provide an extensive outdoor programme, giving the children the freedom to explore the world around them. Every room has their own large separate garden space. We use nature and the outdoors to extend and build upon children’s interests and development. We have large scale construction areas, with sand, stones, wheelbarrows and spades, as well as cosy story and den areas to share a book or sit back and watch the awe and wonder of nature. There are plenty of opportunities to challenge, risk take and climb! Mud creates childhood memories; it adds so much creativity and joy to children’s play, which is why we have a mud kitchen in all of our garden spaces.
School Readiness
Children at Abbotswood are supported to be school ready through our growth centric approach. We treat every child as an individual. The children grow to be curious and confident about learning, resilient and ready to take part in whatever is asked of them, able to take risks, can ask questions and find solutions, are independent with self-care skills, are comfortable making friends and taking turns, and are able to make choices and feel safe and secure. We have strong relationships with the schools in the local area and ensure the children get to have a strong hand over to their new teachers.
